Başkent University Istanbul Hospital is a private multi-specialty medical center in Istanbul, Turkey. It is part of the Başkent University Healthcare Group, founded by Prof. Mehmet Haberal, a world-renowned general surgeon and transplant pioneer.
Prof. Haberal graduated from Ankara University Medical School in 1967 and earned his general surgery specialization in 1971. He continued his training in the United States at leading institutions, including Shriner’s Burns Institute and the University of Colorado Medical School’s Transplantation Center. Prof. Haberal also established the Turkish Organ Transplantation and Burn Foundation (1980), the Turkish Transplantation Society (TOND) (1990), and Başkent University itself in 1993. He is an elected New York Academy of Sciences member and an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
