Biography

Dr. Mehdi Afrit is a Medical Oncologist who practices at Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah. He has over 11 years of experience caring for and managing cancer patients. He has extensive experience providing chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy to patients. He earned a Certificate of Medical Oncology from the Gustave Roussy Institute in Paris, France, where he received training in antitumor chemotherapy and cancer medical treatment. Additionally, he holds an international certificate in breast diseases. He also has a certificate in Good Clinical Practice from Trans Celerate Biopharma Inc. and a certificate in Clinical Trial Management: Good Clinical Practice from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians. He previously worked for over five years as an Assistant Professor of Medical Oncology at Tunis’s Faculty of Medicine. He later practiced as a Consultant, Medical Oncologist for six years at Arianna’s hospital in Tunisia. He later worked for two years as a Specialist Medical Oncologist at Zulekha Hospital. He was also an investigator in three international clinical trials and holds clinical trial auditing and CRO certifications and a GCP Training Certificate from 2016. He is a member in good standing of the Emirates Oncology Society (EOS), the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Professor Carlo Selmi is leading the Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology Unit at Humanitas Research Hospital. 

Since 2009, he is the responsible of the Autoimmunity and Metabolic Laboratory, dedicated to the study of the possible mechanism linked to the progression of autoimmune diseases. 

The research focuses on four main areas: 

• - The epigenetic mechanisms that regulate the environment-genomic interface by influencing the susceptibility and the phenotype of chronic autoimmune and inflammatory diseases in the model of discordant monozygotic twins for disease. To date, the laboratory has biological sample of discordant couples for numerous diseases.
• - The target antigens of autoimmunity modifications that affect the development of the course of autoimmune diseases. In particular, the laboratory studies the post-translational modifications of joint collagen in rheumatoid arthritis.
• - The prevalence of non-organ autoantibodies, such as anti-nucleus and anti-ENAs and disease specific autoantibodies, such as anti-citrulline and anti-endomysium in a non-specific population of health adults and the significance of the positive founds over time.
• - Gender medicine in real-life, through the analysis of administrative databases.

The team holds dedicated clinics also for, spondiloarthritis and connetcive tissue disease, and it is active in articular ultrasound, videocapillaroscopy, arthrocenthesis and joint injection of steroid or hyaluronic acid.  The Division includes an inpatient clinic for complex cases. All group members are fluent in spoken and written English

Current Teaching Activity: Professor Selmi works as Assistant Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Milan since 2006. Furthermore, he holds a joint appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Division of Rheumatology of the University of California at Davis since 2005.

He is member of the American College of Rheumatology, American Association of Allergists and Immunologists, and the Italian Society of Rheumatology. He serves on the International Group for Research on Psoriatic Disease (GRAPPA) and the working group for autoantibody standardization within the ACR (ASC).

Dr. Chetan Prakash ist Facharzt für Orthopädie mit den Qualifikationen MBBS, D-Ortho und DNB (Ortho). Er verfügt über umfangreiche Erfahrung mit Hüft- und Kniegelenkersatz, Revisionschirurgie, Oberflächenersatz an der Hüfte und anderen orthopädischen Operationen. Er hat ein Fellowship in Orthopädischer Chirurgie und Sporttraumatologie am Kanto-Spital Bruderholz in Basel, Schweiz, absolviert. Dr. Prakash spricht Englisch, Arabisch und Hindi und hat ein besonderes Interesse an Sportverletzungen, Ilizarov-Fixateur externe, Verriegelungsnägel und Hüft- und Knieendoprothetik. Seine Forschungsarbeit zur Extremitätenverlängerung hat er in internationalen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht.

Dr. Adel M. Jibril ist Experte für die Behandlung komplexer Autoimmunerkrankungen mit umfassender Erfahrung in rheumatoider Arthritis, Osteoarthritis und ankylosierender Spondylitis. Er spricht fließend Arabisch, Englisch und Russisch und hat einen MBBS, MD, PhD, FACRM, ACPM, AAP, UFR, SH.

Dr. Vivek Sharma ist ein erfahrener Chirurg für Orthopädie und Gelenkersatz mit über 14 Jahren Erfahrung. Er ist ein D.Ortho- und DNB-qualifizierter Chirurg und hat über 5.000 primäre komplexe und Revisionsoperationen durchgeführt. Er verfügt über Erfahrung in der Durchführung von Primär- und Revisions-Hüft-/Knie-Arthroplastiken, Knie-Osteotomie sowie in der Behandlung von Osteoporose, Osteoarthritis und Schmerzen. Er ist auch Gründungsmitglied des Rajasthan Arthoplasty Center of Excellence.
