Prof. Filippini begann seine Karriere 1980 und lehrt seit den 1990er Jahren an der Universität Chieti in den Bereichen Allgemeinchirurgie, Mikrochirurgie, Rekonstruktive Chirurgie, Gefäßchirurgie, Orthopädie und Gynäkologie. Sein Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf der onkologischen Chirurgie, insbesondere auf der „chirurgischen Behandlung lokal fortgeschrittener Tumoren und Multiorganresektionen“. Er hat sein Fachwissen durch Besuche prominenter Referenzzentren in den Vereinigten Staaten erweitert, darunter das Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, New York City. Dort vertiefte er sich unter der Anleitung angesehener Mentoren wie John Daly, Michele Gagner und Murray Brennan in minimalinvasive, laparoskopische und mikrochirurgische Techniken. Darüber hinaus erweiterte er 2005 seine Fähigkeiten am City of Hope Oncology Center in Los Angeles mit Schwerpunkt auf robotergestützter Chirurgie in der Onkologie.

1980 schloss Prof. Filippini sein Medizin- und Chirurgiestudium an der Universität G. D'Annunzio in Chieti in Italien mit Auszeichnung ab und legte eine experimentelle Arbeit über lympho-venöse Anastomose mit mikrochirurgischen Techniken vor. Seine Spezialisierung in Allgemeinchirurgie schloss er nach fünf Jahren an der Universität Pisa mit Auszeichnung ab. 1990 erlangte er eine weitere Spezialisierung in plastischer und rekonstruktiver Chirurgie an der Universität Padua in Italien, wo er hervorragende akademische Leistungen erbrachte.

Prof. Filippini hat auf zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Konferenzen Vorträge gehalten und ist Autor von über 100 wissenschaftlichen Publikationen. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitautor von zwei Monographien.
